Question 4 – How did you use media technologies in the construction
and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Technology played a key part in not only recording and
editing, but also was a major advantage in research and development as well.
Access to technology has become easier and easier to gain hence why on such a
small budget we can still make a professional music video along with album
covers.
When recording we used a Canon DSLR. This type of camera
allowed us to play with the aperture, focus and other aspects of recording to
achieve a professional look. We also experimented with and GoPro and its
stabilizer but decided to leave those shots out of the video as they did not
quite work. If we were to make this video again it would be good to utilize
this technology and think more about how we could incorporate the GoPro or
other camera technology into our video. Having several lens’ for the Canon DSLR
also helped us film a different variety of shots with different amounts of
focus.
In editing the use of Adobe was key. The small price you
have to pay as a student to gain access to some industry grade tools and
programs was totally worth it as it made editing much easier and fluid.
Research into different editing techniques was also key as we can access any of
that information via the internet and simply watch a YouTube video to learn a
professional editing idea. With the time we had to edit, Adobe allowed us to
make the most of it as it’s fluid design made editing more simple even for
members of the group that were not as confident in their skills. By the end of
the process we were all competent with the program which sped up the editing
process and meant we could look for improvements.
Technology can always throw up some challenges as it can
sometimes either not work or be more complicated than you think. But with the
internet we did not face any particularly major problems as with a simple
‘Google’ search we could simply resolve the problem.
